Campbell Wilson has resigned as Chief Executive Officer of Air India, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Wilson, who took on the role in July 2022, led the airline following Ilker Ayci's decision to decline the position earlier that year amid controversy. His appointment came shortly after Tata Group completed its acquisition of Air India from the Indian government in January 2022.

A source said Wilson had informed the board of his intention to step down before formally resigning. The airline had not issued an official statement at the time of reporting.

Earlier in 2026, it was understood that the Tata Group had begun searching for a successor, as Wilson's tenure-originally set to run until 2027-approached its later stages.

Leadership uncertainty extends beyond the parent airline, with low-cost subsidiary Air India Express currently without a chief executive following the departure of former Managing Director Aloke Singh in March after completing his five-year term.

Wilson has faced ongoing scrutiny since a fatal incident in June last year, when a London-bound Air India flight crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, resulting in 241 fatalities aboard a Boeing 787-8.
